Herbert J. Felder, 75, retired General Electric employee
Apr 20, 2018Felder, a retired employee of General Electric, died on Wednesday, April 4, 2018. He was 75.He was born to the late Samuel and Bertha Felder in North Philadelphia. As a young boy, his family played a pivotal role in the civil rights lawsuit that would eventually allow for African-American boys to attend Girard College. Felder graduated from Edison and completed trade school at Bok in South Philadelphia.He shared 56 blissful years of marriage with his wife Gloria Felder. Together, they raised three children, Reneé Murray-Felder, Andrea Butler and Herbert “Herbie” Felder and established a host of traditions that remain present with the family to this day.Felder served as a leader in many capacities. He was a chairman of the usher board ministry at St. Martin De Porres Church, a dedicated block captain and an instrumental member of the General Electric retiree community.Felder was an avid Philadelphia Eagles’ fan. He made sure there was an Eagles blanket, hat or banner is every room of the house. He also had a love of photography. He could always be found with his camera in his hand, snapping pictures of loved ones.He was preceded in death by: his brothers, Samuel (Sonny), Ivan, and Robert Felder; sister, Joan Harris and grandson, Dominic Dixon.In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by his: grandchildren, Akeem Dixon, John Butler, Andre’ Butler, Amber Felder, Tayler Felder, Devon Williams and Jared Felder; great-grandchildren, Chase Felder and Kane Laws and other relatives and friends.Services will be held April 13 at St. Martin De Porres Church, 2340 W. Lehigh Ave. Viewing is at 9 a.m. Services will follow at 11 a.m. Burial is in Ivy Hill Cemetery.Dupree Funeral Home handled the arrangements. (The Philadelphia Tribune)
